Brazil court upholds ban on Chevron, Transocean operations

RIO DE JANEIRO – A Brazilian court upheld an injunction that bans U.S. oil company Chevron Corp. and drilling company Transocean Ltd. from operating in Brazil, according to a decision posted on the court's website Tuesday. Chevron and Transocean had appealed the ban earlier this month.

The Norwegian oil company Statoil said wednesday it aims for a 60% recovery factor at its fields on the Norwegian continental shelf, which could add more than 3 bbopd to its reserves. The recovery factor is a measure of how much of the oil originally in place in a field is ultimately produced.
